So if you are reading this, you might just be wondering who is behind this event. Well, it is me! I am a high school biology teacher in rural northern Ohio as well as a graduate student at the Miami University in Oxford. Through this graduate program, a task that I have been given was to engage my community about the biodiversity in the area. To respond, I chose a bioblitz. Why a bioblitz? I saw E.O. Wilson in a PBS documentary 'Lord of the Ants', which I highly recommend, and he was helping with a bioblitz. As I am a devotee of his, anything that he does, I want to do too!
The other component in this event is Kelleys Island. My husband and I have been working with the good folks at the Kelleys Island Brew Pub for the past several years. When asked to help with the Earth Day weekend, I was excited to be able to combine my school with my love for the island. Some of the specifics of the event are still being worked out, but I am sure that it will be a great day learning about our Great Lake.
